Join Change for Youth Foundation as a Learning Support Mentor and Make a Difference!
Change for Youth Foundation is seeking Learning Support Mentors to join our Empower Youth Program, providing one-on-one learning and wellbeing support to children and young people in foster, kinship, and residential care through sessions delivered in the young person’s home.
This role suits psychology, education, or related degree-qualified professionals, graduates, experienced practitioners, as well as suitable tertiary students who are confident working with young people with complex needs, including trauma-impacted and neurodivergent learners.
Commitment for the full 2026 school year is absolutely critical to ensure consistency and continuity for young people (please do not apply if you cannot commit for the full year)
About the Role
- One-on-one, weekly learning and wellbeing sessions in the young person’s home (typically within 20–25 minutes’ drive from your home)
- Sessions occur at the same time each week and must be consistently attended
- Strengths-based, trauma-informed support tailored to each young person
- Up to 8 hours per week
- After-school availability required (3:30pm–7:00pm, Monday–Friday)
- Start mid-January 2026
- Completion of approximately 18 hours of online training (paid at training rates), ready for commencement in Week 2 of Term 1.
- Commitment for the full 2026 school year is absolutely critical to ensure consistency and continuity for young people (please do not apply if you cannot commit for the full year)
- Willingness to go the extra mile to build a positive and supportive relationship with the young person and their carer
- Includes ongoing support and regular phone catch-ups with our Program Manager
- Completion of detailed weekly session summaries and semester reports
About You
- Background or study in Psychology, Education, Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs
- Strong Maths and English skills, with knowledge of the current school curriculum
- Empathetic, patient, and relationship-focused
- Able to work independently and plan engaging sessions
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively within a team
- Passionate about supporting young people living in out-of-home care
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle required to travel to and from sessions
- Current paid Blue Card (or willingness to obtain)
- Two professional referees
