BLOOM

THE CHANGE FOR YOUTH FOUNDATION ANNUAL GALA LUNCHEON
MARCH – 2026

A Message from our Founding Director:
An Invitation to Sponsor our Inaugural Fundraiser.

Let’s change the story for children in care and our community – together.

Right now, in Queensland, more than 11,000 children are living in out-of-home care. Many carry the burden of trauma, disrupted education, and a system not designed to meet their needs. The consequences are serious: school disengagement, isolation, and far too often, contact with the youth justice system.

At Change for Youth Foundation, we believe children who’ve experienced hardship deserve more than just hope – they deserve action. That’s why our Learning and Wellbeing Support program, EMPOWER YOUTH PROGRAM, delivers one-on-one, trauma-informed learning and wellbeing support for young people living in out of home care. And why we work alongside schools, systems, and carers to advocate for lasting change.

The results are powerful. A child who re-engages with learning starts to believe in their future. They begin to thrive at school, in relationships, and in themselves. These are not small wins. They are life-changing.

In March, we will host our Inaugural Bloom Gala Luncheon – fueling lasting change for children and communities. Because real impact isn’t a moment – it’s a movement. It will be a celebration of possibility and a major fundraising event to expand our reach and raise awareness of the challenges facing these vulnerable children. We’re inviting a select group of mission-aligned partners to join us as founding sponsors.

Your support will help us scale the impact:

  • More young people are supported to stay in school and family-based placements
  • More advocacy for trauma-aware systems
  • More futures redirected toward opportunity, not crisis

We would be honoured to work with you to create a community where every child is seen, supported, and set up to shine.

Warm regards,

Lisa Honeychurch

How your support will change a young person’s life.

BE THE TURNING POINT IN A YOUNG PERSON’S LIFE

  • Over 12,000 children are now in out-of-home care in Queensland, with the cost of residential care ballooning to over $1 billion a year - and rising
  • Almost 9 in 10 children in care have experienced serious trauma, including neglect, abuse, and emotional harm, leaving deep impacts on learning and wellbeing
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are overrepresented and make up nearly 45% of those in care, despite representing only a small percentage of Queensland’s child population

CHANGING ONE CHILD’S LIFE CHANGES A COMMUNITY

The Empower Youth Program is evidence-based. An Independent Social Return on Investment review found that for every $1 invested, Empower Youth Program generates $5.60 in social and economic value to Queenslanders. We focus on:

  • Trauma-informed learning support
  • Helping children remain engaged at school despite the enormous challenges they face
  • Individualised wellbeing care and supporting emotional regulation, coping strategies, and healing for children with complex trauma histories
  • Family and carer collaboration and working alongside carers, schools and professionals to build stable, supportive environments
  • Culturally responsive care and supporting First Nations children to remain connected to culture, country, and identity
  • Advocacy for systemic change
  • Raising awareness of the depth of need and advocating for earlier, better-resourced, and more integrated responses

From crisis to confidence – Jay’s story.

Jay’s story, shared by his foster carer Joanne, shows what this impact truly looks like.

Jay is a young boy with multiple diagnoses and a history of trauma. After being expelled from school in Grade 3, he was placed on a medical exemption and received no learning or support for over a year. He felt rejected by the world – and he believed he was “the worst kid in Australia.”

Then, Change for Youth Foundation stepped in.

From the moment his welcome pack arrived, Jay felt seen. But trust had to be built from the ground up. With care, consistency, and a trauma-aware approach, our Learning Support Mentors helped Jay rediscover learning – at his pace, through play, and in ways that felt safe.

Today, Jay is in Grade 6 and thriving in distance education. He’s reading, asking questions, and embracing learning with curiosity and courage.

“The Empower Youth program showed him he is capable. Their belief in him changed his opinion of himself.”

THE BLOOM COLLECTIVE

The Bloom Collective brings together local florists and flower lovers to create something beautiful for a greater purpose. Each bloom, stem, and sprig donated becomes part of a collective display of generosity – transforming our event tables into lush cottage-garden arrangements overflowing with life, colour, and hope.

We’re inviting florists to contribute — whether it’s a few stems, a bunch, or a small arrangement – to help us create an unforgettable garden party atmosphere for Bloom: A Gala Luncheon by Change for Youth Foundation.

Every floral contribution, no matter how small, helps bring this vision to life and supports our mission to help young people flourish.
